"Simple Fact" -- Frank Casimiro © -- All rights reserved 1998
Johnny got mad at Mary one night
And slapped her across her face
Mary fell to the floor a cryin'
Ol' Johnny thought he'd put her in her place
He grabbed his keys and put on his hat
And rushed right out the front door
Got in his car and drove for miles
Headed down to the lake front shore
Johnny, Oh Johnny, it's a simple fact
When will you learn your lesson my son
You need to use your mind before you act
Or you'll loose all your good fortune
Johnny stood on those banks in the darkness
And thought about what he'd just done
Wondered if Mary would take him back
And forgive him for this one
Having seen his reflection in the moonlit water
He knew he had done her wrong
So he drove back to town to his lover's house
To apologize for being headstrong
He knocked on the door and Mary let him in
But there was a cold chill in the air
Johnny tried to hug Mary, but she just pulled away
And went to pack her bags upstairs
As she walked from his life Mary never looked back
She really gave Johnny the business
Johnny stood silent with his head hanging low
Mary's anger scorned her forgiveness
Johnny walks the shores of the lake alone at night
Dragging his heels and kicking up dust
Thoughts of pretty Mary fill his lonely mind
And how on that night he lost her trust
Moonlit trees in the water form dreams
Creating a vision of Mary's soft silhouette
The woman he loved and once shared with his life
Are only memories now Ol' Johnny won't soon forget
Johnny, Oh Johnny, it's a simple fact
See you've learned your lesson my son
For now you pay the price of your selfish act
You live with your actions
Forever with your actions
